It seems not a day goes by without the discovery of at least one new reason to be thankful for Japan and its relentlessly wonderful weirdness. Today’s reason is a street food called Taiyaki, a fish-shaped cake made of pancake or waffle batter that’s traditionally served with a filling of red bean paste.
A New York eatery called Taiyaki NYC has turned that cute fish cake into an awesome soft serve ice cream cone by changing its shape to feature a wide-open mouth. The tail of the fish is also a tiny treat unto itself, filled with either custard or sweet red bean paste.
